And Jesus answered and spoke to them once more in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a certain king who made a marriage for his son. He sent out his slaves to call those who were bidden to the wedding, but they would not come.
Again he sent out other slaves, saying, `Tell those who have been summoned: Behold, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the marriage!’
But they made light of it and went their own ways, one to his farm, another to his business, and the ones remaining rest seized his slaves, abused them, and killed them. And when the king heard, he was enraged. He dispatched his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he said to his slaves, `The wedding is ready, but those who were bidden were not worthy. Go therefore into the highways and invite as many as you find to the wedding.’ So those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. In this way so the wedding was furnished with guests.
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing a wedding garment. And he said to him, `Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.
Then the king said to the attendants, `Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
